Spaces hold Energy
Being in lockdown really brings it home (pun intended):
There is a lot of us inside our home. Home is part of our family, it reflects us as people. That’s why it can be healing, but it can also be confronting, at times.
Our emotional life is held and reflected back by our house. - Sounds weird, doesn’t it? - Perhaps that is what made homes spooky in the olden days, when families lived in them for generations and emotional imprints continued to accumulate.
I once met a space clearer, her name was Karen Kingston. She was able to feel the energy held by the walls and tell her clients their emotional history - and that of previous owners- by moving her hands along the walls!
She then cleared all those imprints in a beautiful ceremony, to create a blank canvas, a clear, clean space to allow for a new and unimpeded future. Following her instructions, I have since cleared many spaces (including offices) and I have to say that this is a most rewarding and enjoyable thing to do.
You may not have to go to that extent, and do something to improve the energy in your home-space, right now.
What do you think is the best time of the year to improve the energy in your home? - SPRING, of course. The season of awakening to a new beginning. The lockdown is offering us a unique opportunity to take the power to the … shower…. and everything else. But how satisfying is it to look at a sparkling clean shower?!
One more good reason to get started on your spring cleaning journey: Know that every obstacle you encounter, every bit of resistance, resentment and annoyance you encounter is - YOURS! Take a step back and look at how it reflects in your life, when all you can think of is that the shower will be dirty again, tomorrow! Or that you never finish anything, or .. that everything is a mess and you don’t know where to start. Or you wonder, how other people will judge your home and how to please them? Or you feel that there always is something wrong with your home, you just can’t quite put your finger on it?
In any case, your home is telling you something, it is giving you free therapy.
You have a choice to make:
A- Leave it as is, accept the status quo.
If you do so, be whole-hearted about it. Embrace the comfort of the moment and don’t judge yourself for not making changes for the sake of it.
B- Work on it, renew your spaces.
This option is best started with a small change, but depending on your temperament you might want to go big. Just be careful running with big steps, as you may end up lost… in space…. I think it is important to start with something that you are sure you can finish, as small as it may be. As I say in my book: Start with a drawer. “A journey of 100,000 miles starts with just one step.”
Enjoy, and give yourself lots of praise: You just conquered and integrated a new part of yourself!
C- Get help with the renewal process.
As with everything in life: There are people to help you, when you are stuck. Perhaps you have a friend, who is really good at being organised or clean or loving caring helpful? It actually can be a wonderful activity to renew a room, together with someone close to you. Professional help is hard to find, but Google will tell.
Just like you might ask a trusted person about their view on an aspect of your personal life you are struggling with, you can invite them to tell you about your home. It is always helpful to hear someone else’s input. Take it or leave it, it is offering an outsider’s view that can be the beginning of new realisations.
Always remember to appreciate small changes…. a vase of flowers on the table, replacing that lightbulb, clearing and wiping the kitchen sink. A relative of mine used to have a messy home and life (she said), until she read a book that explained how you step up and take charge by making one non-negotiable rule. She decided to NEVER go to bed without having cleaned the kitchen sink. It is still an iron-clad law in her now impeccable household with two young kids and her darling husband.
Happy spring, everyone! :-)
