Give.

There is a lot of talk about resilience, self care, mental health, and needs not being met. The talk alone makes me feel somewhat depressed and overwhelmed. There is so much ‘should’ and entitlement.

Today, I received an email from Yourtown, to help people being resilient in these difficult times. They advocate to Give and to be Grateful to improve your mental health, amongst other things. This of course is easy to say… when you are well!

Connecting to the previous podcast and the suggestion to do spring cleaning together with someone else, I’d like to say that you can offer to help a friend or relative, even if you struggle with doing it for yourself. It is one of those magic tricks that human beings have up their sleeve: The whole is more than the sum of its parts. We can do things together that we could never achieve on our own!

Part of the clearing ritual I wrote about in that post is to give gratitude to your home. Feel in stillness, how your familiar home space nourishes and protects you. Day after day, your home-space holds you and gives to you.

Maybe you feel an impulse to give something back to your home? What could that be?

Relationships support and maintain us, and that includes our relationship to our home. However, a healthy home is not an entitlement. We’ve got to give something back, do something to make it happen.

In the homes of some of my clients, I see an altar in the hallway, with fresh flowers and a candle. Others have symbols of their religious beliefs, or a beautiful crystal to hold positive energies, - what would be appropriate for you?

I am making a point of having a shelf in my office, dedicated to stillness and insight. - Amongst all the files, books, tools, drawers and things it reminds me of what is most important, above all. Every now and then, I rest my eyes on it, and it centres me and allows my mind to re-engage with renewed energy. At times, I light a candle or burn my favourite incense, - real frankincense, which is just beautiful.
