The Face of your Home
Isn’t it interesting, how every home looks different? Having just returned from a 3000 km road trip, it never ceases to amaze me, where people live and how they make a place their home. Human Beings are just amazing.
Some homes look so down-trodden that I feel sorry for them, others radiate life and love. Others look old and neglected, but their glorious past still shines through. Every home starts with a great dream, and has a story to tell!
In Feng Shui, you can bring health and abundance into your home by changing it’s placing, layout and looks. It is a bit like when you finally managed to tidy up all the bits and pieces in the garage, or on your work desk: It makes you feel better and opens new opportunities for life to unfold. Consequently, you can raise the energy of your home by making some changes. Think that every change you make becomes a little opening to the world of new opportunities. You actually make that change, because it already happened inside of you - it just needed manifesting.
In this blog, I will focus on a few things you can do to improve the way your home faces the world. if you live in an apartment, consider the hallway door, the windows, or the balcony,
the way leading up to your door
There is a saying “Never let the grass grow on the path to your friend’s house” and this applies even more to your very own home! Make sure the entrance path is clear, not overgrown, but open and inviting. It also is preferable to have a curvy path, as that makes visitors more comfortable, when coming to see you (try this out, yourself). Remember that the shortest way is not always the fastest or the best. We are subjective beings.
It is important that there is no doubt about where the entrance to your home is. If only close family and friends know how to go around the house, past the car and the big shrub…. it sends a particular signal to the universe.
To be inviting and welcoming can only be achieved with a clear path to an obvious entrance, that virtually guides you in. Some beautiful blossoms along the way create joy and abundance, calling out: Come in and celebrate life with us!
your front door
There mustn’t be any doubt about where the entrance to the home is. Even if you often go through the garage, make sure the front door is ‘in your face’. In Feng Shui, it is the mouth of the home, where the Chi energy comes in, - so don’t be shy about the front door! Some paint it red, others place a sculpture or potted plants at the entrance - but beware of blocking it. I always enjoy it, when I get greeted by a personal touch in the entrance. - Give your visitors that experience!
lighting
A warm-coloured light radiates a cozy atmosphere. Avoid the hash, white light of many cheap LED lights. Also, make sure there is enough light, of course.
Additionally, you might like to have a light under a spectacular tree, or illuminate your fountain.
landscaping
Landscaping is often an after-thought. However, it very much defines your living space, in function and aesthetics. It can be very subjective, but generally flowing forms of paths and garden beds are preferable to straight and square ones.
In the current situation of major rainfalls, it is especially important to create a layered landscape that keeps the water run-off away from the home.
clarity
Yes, it is important to be clear and tidy, - also at the front of the house. Less is always better, and keep an eye on over-growing plants and weeds.
money tree (Crassula ovata)
I often see money trees at the entrances, which are supposed to bring abundance to the home. They have succulent, fleshy little leaves and thick, light stems. As they are evergreen, you can enjoy them all year round. https://www.bhg.com.au/how-to-grow-a-money-plant
Ultimately, it is all about how you express yourself with your home - we are all different and enjoy different things. Some like to plant edible plants, others like big blossoms all year round, and others again prefer natives. Some like a colourful cottage garden, others prefer it more structured…. there are so many options, and all are wonderful, as long as they are the way you want them to be. You create your entrance as your entrance creates you.
